As you can probably tell by the title of this post, this was my Airstream dream… Ever since I first laid eyes on an old silver bullet caravan, I fell in love. The shape, the retro-ness and the nostalgia that comes with it. So when I found Autocamp, I hounded The Boyfriend to let us stay there on our trip and to be fair, he didn’t need much persuading.
We picked the 1959 Airstream Overlander in Lot 3, the mint green interior swung it for me, as did the avocado tree and The Boyfriend loved the idea of cruising down Santa Barbara beach on our complimentary beach cruisers. Unfortunately for us, as we got to Santa Barbara late on the first evening, there was only time to go and find a pretty amazing Thai takeaway recommended in our Autocamp guide and the next day we woke up to torrential rain. That didn’t stop. All day. But it could have been worse! Instead of being stuck in a hotel room, we had a whole airstream to enjoy, so after we spent half of the day running from shop to shop in downtown Santa Barbara (where we spent the most money during the whole holiday), we caravan-ed it up! We made tea on the hob as it seems that the Americans don’t seem to do kettles (only coffee machines), played Scrabble and really enjoyed just being there.
I definitely got into the retro spirit with this 70s culotte jumpsuit, which is probably my favourite purchase of the summer and the airstream was the perfect backdrop.
I was sad to leave the Autocamp, but the next time we visit Santa Barbara (hopefully when it’s sunny), we are definitely coming back!
