A couple of weeks ago I had a few days off so my mum came down to London to stay. Aside from lots of shopping and coffee, I decided I would treat my mum to afternoon tea. Mothers Day was coming up and I am quite partial to a cup of tea and a cake if you haven’t already noticed! After searching around online for the best place to take her, I decided on The Wolseley. With it’s grand decor and vintage silverware, I thought it would be the perfect place to take her for a spot of tea and some interesting people watching. I also thought that the price was pretty reasonable for such a well established cafe-restaurant in the heart of Piccadilly.
The Afternoon Tea option includes assorted finger sandwiches, a selection of cakes, fruit scones and tea. I love the silver cake stand that is brought to your table bearing all sorts of goodies. My favourites had to include the scones which were under the dome, still warm! You cannot beat a good scone, especially when they are so light and fluffy. And not forgetting the lemon meringue dessert and the pistachio and berry madeleine. Mum and I shared most of the desserts to get a taster for each one and they were all delicious.
As for tea, Mum went for Darjeeling and I went for Earl Grey as usual. Mum even managed to drink two pots of tea! Must be where I get it from… ;)
All in all, I think my mum enjoyed herself and we definitely didn’t need dinner afterwards! I would recommend a visit if you’re ever looking for an afternoon tea for a special occasion or even just a cream tea for two. I know I’ll be back at some point in the future!
What afternoon tea gems do you know about? I would love to know!
